Class rates:
All rates refer to one person. Packages/club subscriptions cannot be shared with someone else. Rates need to be paid upfront (please see our booking & cancellation regulations for more details).
Clay / firing limitations:
Free firings are electric kiln firings only and our package firing offers only apply to work completed at the studio by an enrolled student. Any work created by a student outside the studio, will be charged extra. Students are asked to plan ahead when creating a project that needs to be done by a certain date to ensure that there is enough time for drying and firing the work.
--> Economy package:
Should you have used up the included clay before your package ends, you can purchase an extra bag from the studio. Firings for items made from additional clay, will be charged extra.
--> Monthly pottery club:
The nearly unlimited clay offering is subject to studio supplies and does not apply for production pottery purpose (please see our studio culture and etiquette details for more information).
Studio culture and etiquette:
- Be kind and respectful to others. We aim to offer a creative hub where everybody can find enjoyment, peace, and relaxation. We therefore ask each student to treat each other with kindness and respect. This also includes that work by other students should not be touched / moved without prior permission.
- Respect the studio space. Please use tools and equipment properly and with care. Each student has to clean up their workspace and tools (incl. molds, ware boards, rolling pins, etc.) at the end of each use. Please ask for assistance if you are unsure how to use a tool or where it is stored.
- The studio offers space for fun and learning, not production. While students may sell their creations occasionally, we cannot support production pottery volumes. Individuals who are interested in producing pottery for sale or production in larger numbers are encouraged to contact pottery supplies who can assist them with starting their own pottery studio.
Studio rules and safety guidelines:
To sustain a creative, safe, and healthy studio environment, we ask everyone using the studio to follow the procedures outlined below before beginning working on any projects. This is a communal studio and its cleanliness and smooth functioning depends on everyone doing their part.
--> Health and safety
- All chemicals must be labeled with the name of the substance.
- Any spills must be sponged/mopped up immediately.
- Cuts and open wounds should be protected from foreign materials.
- Always wash your hands and arms thoroughly before leaving the work area.
- Keep dust under control. No sanding / grinding of clay allowed inside the studio.
- Eating and drinking should NOT be combined with working on ceramics.
--> Condition of the studio
- Cleaning is necessary after each class.
- You must begin clean up in ample time to be out of the studio by the time your session is scheduled to end.
- Your workspace is to be wet wiped clean.
- All tools and batts that you used are to be cleaned with water for the next use and returned to proper place.
- Do not leave tools or equipment in sink area.
--> General procedures
- Do not touch, handle, or move any work that is not your own unless you have permission.
- Each piece has to have the potter’s name / stamp / signature inscribed on the bottom or side.
- If work in progress is wrapped in plastic, use a clothes peg with your name to label it. Unidentified pieces will be discarded or used for studio purposes (e.g. glaze tests).
- Pots are to be removed from molds / batts as soon as possible so others may use them. Dry pots will be removed from molds / batts and placed on shelves by the studio manager if molds / batts are needed.
- Finished pieces (i.e. items that were glaze fired) need to be collected within one month as we cannot store them longer due to space limitations.
--> Glazing
- Only glazes and underglazes approved by the studio manager may be used. We reserve the right to disallow any troublesome glazes.
- Bottoms and sides (up to ca. 5mm from bottom) of all pieces must be free of glaze. Check pieces to make sure glaze is wiped off bottom before putting on the shelf to be fired.
- Ware with glaze on the bottom surface or with questionable glaze thickness will not be fired.
- Glazes must be applied by brushing or dipping. No spraying or airbrushing in studio allowed.
- Make certain all the equipment is thoroughly cleaned of glaze before returning to proper storage area.
- If in doubt about the proper viscosity of a glaze ask the studio manager to check it – BEFORE using it.
--> Kiln and firings
- The studio manager is responsible for loading, unloading, and firing the kiln.
- Only work from enrolled students and produced during sessions at the studio is to be fired.
- Outside work can be fired in agreement with the studio manager and will be charged according to the size of the pieces to be fired.
